Square Score

Every hedge set gets a letter grade from A+ to F for how square it looks to the sportsbooks. The higher the grade, the more likely you are to keep getting bonuses and to get higher-value ones. Here is the breakdown of what we score: parlays, stakes, odds, timing relative to game start, popular leagues and markets, and more. The simplest thing you can do to raise your score is place bets close to game time.

The letter grade

On the Hedges tab, each card has a letter grade in the top right corner 1. That is the Square Score. We rate each hedge set from A+ through F, with A and A+ being the most square-looking bets we found that you can place at these sportsbooks.

The reason to care is to get your accounts profiled as square. Square accounts get sent more bonuses, and the bonuses are higher value, which means more profit for you.

The breakdown

Inside a hedge set, click the grade to get a full breakdown of what we look at and how we evaluate its squareness.

Most of these are calculated for you behind the scenes and surfaced in our Account Stealth category, so all you really have to do is wait for an A and place it. But for inquiring minds, here is what each line means:

• Parlay bet. We rate parlays highly because they look much squarer than straight bets.
• Stealthy bet. This one is proprietary, so I will not explain it in detail, but we evaluate it and give it a point.
• High stakes. Higher stakes are better for getting your bonuses raised.
• Stealthy odds. There is a better price for this bet at another sportsbook. Price sensitivity is sharp betting 101, so violating it is a strong signal to the sportsbook that you are square.
• Close to game start. More on this below.
• Popular league / team, popular markets, main lines, recreational sportsbook, low volume. Low volume means you are not placing a hundred-plus bets a day.

The one you control: game start

The biggest thing people using the app can do to look squarer is to wait until very close to game start to place the bets. You get full points if you are within 15 minutes of the game starting, and partial points if it is day-of or within an hour.

In this example it is only +1: the game is happening today, which is true, but it is not within an hour and not within 15 minutes. If you waited until 7:30 tonight to place this hedge set, the B would likely be an A.

Per-sportsbook points

FanDuel is 12 points, which is pretty square. bet365 is 12 points, pretty square. The letter grade gets dragged down by BetRivers with only 9 points.

If you waited until 7:30 to place these bets, the Square Score would go up to an A and all three bets would look very square to each of these three sportsbooks. That means they are more inclined to send you extra bonuses, and those bonuses are likely to be high value.
